Heather Hubbard is a project-based mixed-media artist who spent much of her childhood in the Ozarks, where she developed a fascination with nature and its forms: seed pods, algae cells, and root systems. Since moving to California, she has found further inspiration from the wealth of diverse ecosystems the state has to offer. These inspirations make their way into her work and she uses their organic textures to embody ideas ranging from environmental concerns to self-care and authentic connection.
Heather’s art making practice reflects a desire to understand. It is a process of inquiry and a search for the invisible, yet nearly perceivable, thread that connects all things. Some answers are revealed in the practice, while new questions emerge. For Heather, art making is an organic, living process that creates space for both artist and viewer to become more comfortable with the unknowable.
Heather has a BA in English and an MA in Biology from the University of Arkansas and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno. She teaches Art Appreciation at Clovis Community College and lives in Fresno with her husband, Erik, and their dog, Otis.
